Meeting of Jewish communities in Sombor
9.8.2021.

After the successful family Inter-Community gathering on Ada Ciganlija lake in Belgrade, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia and the Jewish community of Sombor, organized another event – the Inter-Community gathering in Sombor. The gathering was held on Sunday, July 25, 2021.

The idea of the gathering was to give members of Jewish communities an opportunity to learn more about rich history and culture of the beautiful city of Sombor, as well as about history of Jewish people from these parts. 

The president of the Jewish community of Sombor – Sandra Papo Fišer, and other members of Sombor community, were excellent hosts. The gathering was attended by 150 guests from  Jewish communities of: Sombor, Subotica, Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Pančevo and Belgrade. 

The Inter-Community gathering was opened in the beautiful garden of the Jewish community of Sombor, with welcome snacks and refreshments. Guests were greeted by the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia – Robert Sabadoš, president of the Jewish community of Sombor – Sandra Papo Fišer, and the organizer of the gathering – Danijel Bogunović.

An exciting tour of Sombor followed, with all compliments to the excellent tourist guide Nikola Zobenica. After that, the guests were given free time to explore the city.

The visit to the County building was a special event. In there is famous painting named ". Nikola Zobenica gave a short lecture dedicated to the really impressive painting Battle on Senta", exposed in the festive hall of the county building. He also spoke about the history of the city and of the Sombor Jews. At the end of the lecture, the guests were greeted by the Mayor of Sombor – Antonio Ratković. The visit to the County building ended with a group photo in front of the painting "Battle on Senta".

The lunch was organized in the "Šebešfok" restaurant. On the menu was carp stew with pasta, a popular and authentic dish from this place. During lunch, guests were entertained by the music band.

Positive energy and desire to socialize were present throughout the entire gathering, so the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia in cooperation with local Jewish communities, will continue to organize Inter-community meetings. Next meeting will be in Subotica, and at the Palić lake.
