A family inter-community gathering, attended by over 200 participants from the Jewish communities of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica, Zrenjanin and Pančevo, was held on June 15, in the wonderful environment of the restaurant "Oaza" on Ada Ciganlija.
Entire families gathered, young generation, members of the middle generation, and also the oldest members who survived Holocaust.
Understanding the great desire of community members to meet each other and socialize again, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia organized this event after almost a yearlong break caused by Coronavirus.
Robert Sabadoš – President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia, and Danijel Bogunović – coordinator, greeted participants with a welcome speech.
The guests made a walking tour to the bust dedicated to Hugo Buli. Tourist guide Bojan Ratković explained what members of the Buli family did for Belgrade and Serbia, how they contributed to the Jewish community in Belgrade, how Hugo Buli from Germany brought the first soccer ball and organized the first football match in Serbia. Due to the great interest of participants, Bojan Ratković led three tours, one of which was for Hebrew speaking participants.
After the tour, a delicious lunch was served, and Nikola Salaćanin performed famous Jewish and Israeli songs. For children of different ages, educators led by Tamara Cvitak, organized interesting workshops and games.
The presence of such a large number of members, demonstrated that community members are eager to participate in such high-quality events. Just as the Bully family left behind something valuable, so should also today's leaders of Jewish communities.
