Reactions to anti-Semitic posters in Belgrade: ''Perpetrators must be held accountable for spreading religious and racial hatred''
1.6.2021.

The Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia submitted a report to the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office, regarding anti-Semitic incident which involved posters with inappropriate messages. The incident occurred on Thursday 27 May, 2021 in the street 27 March, in Belgrade.

“Anti-Semitic messages on posters have caused great anxiety and fear in the Jewish community in Serbia. Hence we request that you take necessary steps in order to find perpetrators who must be taken responsible for spreading religious and racial hatred, and sanctioned in accordance with the Law,” the report stated.

In regard to this incident, the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, gave a statement: ”In the Str. 27 March, in Belgrade, in front of the supermarket “Aman”, an unidentified perpetrator wrote anti-Semitic messages and Nazi symbols, by which he expressed his devotion to hate and to the industry of death, established for the purpose of total annihilation of Jewish people. This incident disturbed with good reason the Jewish Community in Serbia and all of us who know that humanity issues transcend criminal law, and how important it is to find and punish perpetrators as soon as possible.”

The Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue further stated that it fully supports the Jewish Community in Serbia, and calls all citizens to show without a doubt that there is no place for anti-Semitism in Serbia.
